Interviewed by Retail Dive, Evan Sills discusses several cyber risks for companies that are compiling a lot of customer data. Among his observations:
1) The more data is collected, the harder it is to implement a meaningful retention policy.
2) Companies should make it a habit to ask about their third-party collaborator’s security procedures. In a preliminary risk assessment, companies need to determine where the company’s proprietary data is stored and which third parties have access to valuable information.
3) Next to providing appropriate security training, companies should incorporate cybersecurity awareness into their culture. To achieve that, it is critical that all relevant stakeholders practice their security policies on a regular basis.
